Temecula, California is located in the southwestern portion of Riverside County. It is bordered by Murrieta and the Pechanga Indian Reservation. The Pechanga Indian reservation is host to one of the largest casinos and resorts in all of Southern California, offering gambling, fine dining and nightclubs. As of the 2010 census, Temecula has a population of 100,067 people, making it the 5th most populous city in Riverside County.
Temecula was incorporated on December 1, 1989, and is a relatively young city. After incorporation, Temecula began to grow in size. Many people from San Diego County and Orange County were drawn to Temecula because of its affordable housing. Planned communities sprung up through many parts of Temecula during this time period. Temecula serves as the home for many military families, as it is located a short distance from such military bases as Camp Pendleton, Naval bases in San Diego, and March Air Reserve Base.
In addition, Temecula has a booming wine country, and is often a destination for southern Californians in search of wine tasting. There are over 30 wineries in Temecula, and over 3,500 acres of wine producing vineyards. |
