The City of Fullerton was founded by brothers George and Edward Amerige in 1887. The two brothers were grain merchants from Malden, Massachusetts. In 1886, they sold their business in Massachusetts and headed to California eager to benefit from the land boom in the West. In 1887, they purchased 430 acres that made up the original town and named it after the town’s benefactor, George H. Fullerton. Between its inception and up until the industrial boom, Fullerton was known was for its agricultural development and resources.  In fact, at one time, Fullerton was known for having more orange groves than any other city in Orange County, California.

As of 2010, Fullerton has a population of 135,161 people and is located north of Anaheim in Orange County, California. It is home to California State University at Fullerton, Western State University College of Law, Southern California College of Optometry, and Fullerton College, which was established in 1913 and is known as the oldest community college in California. Fullerton is also known for its lively downtown, which was revitalized and restored in 2000 and is known by some as the last true downtown district in Orange County.
