The City of Buena Park maintains a population of over 83,385 residents. In 1834, Buena Park was located at the center of Rancho Los Coyotes, which was one of five ranchos belonging to Manuel Nieto, a corporal from Spain’s Portola Expedition. In 1847, Americans seized the area after their success in the Mexican War. Eventually, in 1885 James A. Whitaker went on to establish the town of Buena Park, which was incorporated in 1953. Today, you can appreciate the city’s rich heritage by visiting the Los Coyotes Country Club in Buena Park’s Bellehurst area as well as the Whitaker-Jaynes Estates, which is available to tours and is located in Buena Park’s historical district.
Buena Park is well known for its popular attractions, like Knott’s Berry Farm, Knott’s Soak City, Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, and the Pirates Dinner Adventure Show. Known as the E-Zone, these attractions are located around and on Beach Boulevard south of the 91 Freeway. Knott’s Berry Farm was founded by Walter and Cordelia Knott, who moved to Buena Park in the 1920’s. It is popularly known as America’s first theme park and it is the country’s twelfth most visited amusement park. |
